My New Favourite Lens
Meet my new favourite lens – the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm/F1.4 II.
- I used to have one prime lens (the 15 mm f/1.7), and one zoom lens (the 12-60 mm f/2.8) [micro 4/3″ crop factor 2.0]
- The 15 mm f/1.7 [30 mm full frame equivalent] was too wide for my liking. and I wanted to shoot more in “normal” perspective. (explained below)
- But the zoom lens, when in 25 mm focal length [50 mm full frame equivalent], only had an aperture of f3.5
- So I looked into this beauty
- They’re stunning. With a fast aperture of f1.4 and Leica (standard) optics.
- A normal lens is a lens that reproduces a field of view the same as the way your eye sees it. It appears “natural” to the human eyes, hence “normal”. Full frame normal lenses have a focal length of 50 mm [which is equivalent to 25 mm in the micro 4/3″ system I use] (Wikipedia, shuttermuse.com)
- i.e. not too wide, not too tele.
- Playing with my new toy, this is a shot I’m quite happy with:
